The film of The Klan in Michigan

In 2004 I made the first of what I had hoped would be several episodes about the Klan in Michigan. That was during time I was teaching at Hope College. Things soon ended there and only the first part was completed: The Klan in Michigan, Part 1: The Klan of Reconstruction.

We feature interviews with Dr. Randall Jelks, Dr. Frank Boles, Dr. Bill Cohen, Dr. Norman McRae. I both composed and performed the music. Of all the pieces perhaps you’ll note an expansion on the theme of the Gregorian chant Dies Irae…the day of wrath. Here I’ve fashioned it into “The Klan March.”

Here’s a photo after we were presented the Historical Society of Michigan Media Award of the year for 2005. We are (from left) videographer Phil Blauw, Dr. Fred Johnson, III, Dr. David B. Schock, and presenter Bob Myers.
